
On February 12, 2026, an expanded meeting dedicated to updating the undergraduate curriculum in the Social Work specialty was held at Baku Business University. The main objective of the event was to align higher education programs with the requirements of the modern labor market, international academic standards, and current challenges in the social sector. Representatives of relevant government institutions, non-governmental organizations, higher education institutions, and professional experts in the field participated in the meeting.
The event was attended by representatives of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, the State Employment Agency, the DOST Center, the Social Services Agency, the National Observatory on Labor Market and Social Protection Issues, the Public Union “Ümidli Gələcək” for Support to Social Initiatives, as well as Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Azerbaijan University, and the Academy of Labour and Social Relations of Azerbaijan.
Opening the event, the Head of the Department and Program Director of the Social Work specialty, Associate Professor Mahsati Jafarova, PhD in Philosophy, emphasized the strategic importance of the social work profession for society. She noted that dynamic changes in the social sector, increasing complexity in working with vulnerable groups, and the expansion of institutional services require continuous updating of higher education programs. Mahsati Jafarova particularly highlighted the importance of considering real labor market demands, partner institutions’ experience, and international approaches in the development and improvement of educational programs.
During the discussions, the existing educational programs were analyzed, and proposals were made regarding enriching the content, introducing new subjects and competencies, increasing practice-oriented components, and improving the quality of teaching. Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening professional training in the field of social work, enhancing cooperation between education and the labor market, and developing students’ practical skills. It was noted that the process of updating the programs will continue based on feedback and recommendations from relevant stakeholders, resulting in the formation of an education model that meets modern challenges, is practice-oriented, and complies with international standards.
This initiative will contribute significantly to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between Baku Business University and partner institutions, as well as to the development of higher education in the social field.
