On October 20, 2026, Baku Business University hosted an international scientific conference entitled “Opportunities for the Application of Mathematical Models in the Formation and Development of a Competitive Economy,” dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The conference was organized by Konul Omarova, PhD in Mathematics, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Higher Mathematics at Baku Business University.
The conference brought together prominent mathematicians, including Elkhan Sabziyev, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Director and Acting Director of the Institute of Mathematics under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Soltan Aliyev, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, Professor; Rovshan Bandaliyev, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, Professor and Head of a Laboratory at the Institute of Mathematics; Elshan Ibayev, PhD in Mathematics, Associate Professor; Yegana Ashrafova, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences; Ulviyya Karimova, PhD in Mathematics; and a number of other distinguished scholars.
Opening the conference, Maleyka Abbasova, PhD in Law and Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at Baku Business University, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the event. She also announced that researchers from several foreign countries would join the conference online.
International participants included Professor Cherkez Agayeva from Türkiye, Heyran Aliyeva, PhD in Mathematics, from Saudi Arabia, and Umid Djumayozov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, from Uzbekistan, who attended the conference virtually.
Subsequently, Konul Omarova, Head of the Department of Higher Mathematics, addressed the participants. She noted that the scientific conference, organized annually as part of an ongoing series initiated by the Department, coincided this year with the 90th anniversary of the birth of Professor Tamilla Nasirova, Azerbaijan's first female Doctor of Sciences in Mathematics.
Conference participants reflected on Professor Tamilla Nasirova's life and academic career, highlighted her significant contributions to the development of mathematical science in Azerbaijan, and shared their personal memories of the distinguished scholar.
The conference then continued with scientific presentations addressing opportunities for applying mathematical models to the formation and development of a competitive economy, as well as the role of mathematics in contemporary scientific research.
The conference proceedings were published and made available to the academic community.
At the conclusion of the event, Associate Professor Konul Omarova expressed her gratitude to Ibad Abbasov, Rector of Baku Business University, Doctor of Economic Sciences and Professor, for providing the necessary conditions and support for organizing the conference.
The conference made a valuable contribution to expanding academic cooperation, discussing current challenges in mathematical science, and facilitating the exchange of scientific knowledge and experience among researchers.
